A pair of osprey nesting on a platform near the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center at Lake Lowell has started incubating their eggs, and the public can watch them via the Friends of Deer Flat Osprey-Cam. Osprey, sometimes called fish hawks, typically lay two or three eggs. Last year, the pair fledged three chicks from the same nest, refuge officials said. The female will be doing most of the incubating this month, with the male bringing her meals of fish. Chicks are expected to hatch in early June. The webcam was installed through a partnership between Friends of Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge, Fiberpipe Digital Media Services, and Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge. The osprey also can be seen from the Refuge Visitor Center viewing room or the nearby nature trail. The visitor center also offers opportunities to learn about local wildlife from interpretive displays, hands-on kids’ activities, and a large collection of videos for kids and adults. The visitor center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The entrance road is at the corner of Roosevelt and Indiana Avenues west of Nampa.
