From the Ontario Argus Observer:
Storm pounds western Treasure Valley
Friday, August 6, 2010 9:08 PM PDT
A major thunderstorm, complete with hail, high winds and heavy rains pounded the western Treasure Valley from Nyssa and Vale through Ontario, Fruitland, Payette and New Plymouth Friday night.
Preliminary reports show heavy flooding along major roadways. The underpass on Idaho Avenue in Ontario was closed because of high water. Other areas, including Gay Way Junction in Fruitland, and along Southwest Fourth Avenue in Ontario also reported water deep enough to stall vehicles.
A mudslide was reported at Idaho Highway 52 and Killebrew Avenue east of Payette. Authorities indicated about a foot of mud across the highway.
High winds knocked down tree branches throughout the area, however, as of late Friday there were no reports of any trees being uprooted by the winds.
Malheur County Sheriff's deputies said Friday, after the first storm came though, that the National Weather Service was warned of potentially two more storms that could hit the area before morning.
From me
I've been out this morning to shop and meet Doc at the office. Jeannie called, said that Ashley Furniture's basement flooded last night, they spent the night there helping save what they could. They lost TV's, computer, and business records. Everywhere I've been it's reports of the winds, weather report is they topped at close to 70mph, the extreme rain and hail-it was about the size of golf balls here, and the poor woman at the store who lost the roof to her porch when a tree landed on it. It started at 7:30 and lasted for a good 30 minutes, stopped and then another smaller storm about 20 minutes later. Doc was worried about the office basement and asked me to meet him there, just in case. We had no damage and no flooding.
